Moel Famau Country Park
Moel Famau Country Park is over 2000 acres of important upland landscape and one of the largest country parks in Wales. The Park has an impressive landscape of colourful heather moorland changing to greener grassland pastures on its lower slopes. The central feature of the Park is the seven mile stretch of the Offas Dyke National Trail running along the ridge. It takes about 40 minutes to walk to the Jubilee Tower along the Offas Dyke Path. The Countryside Service has provided some guided walk leaflets for the area. These can be obtained from the Countryside Centre at Loggerheads Country Park.

The Ruthin Gaol
Built in 1775 as a model prison of that period to serve the old County of Denbighshire.
It was designed by J Turner of Chester. The large Victorian block at the rear was built in 1866 on the model of Pentonville Prison in London, and it looks more like a typical prison.
The last execution here took place in 1903 and it closed as a prison in 1916. During the Second World War it housed a significant munitions factory, and it has recently been redeveloped as a visitor attraction and home for the County Archives at a cost of over £1 million.

Plas Newydd
At the turn of the eighteenth century Llangollen was well known for being the home of the Ladies of Llangollen. The romantic story of their elopement from their families in Ireland, their journey to Wales and their setting up home at Plas Newydd captured the imagination of Regency society.
The house where they lived can be visited between Easter and October every day 10am 5pm

Rhuddlan Castle
Formidable Rhuddlan Castle was the last and mightiest of the many successive fortresses which have guarded the crucial crossing of the River Clwyd. It was begun by Edward 1 in September 1277, not long before he received here the submission of Prince Llynelyn ap Gruffudd, reducing him to an English vassal ruling a much shrunken realm.
Signposted from Rhuddlan town centre, the castle is easily visited by car. Open daily from May September 10am 5pm with entrance charge, free at other times of the year.

Dinas Bran Castle
Among the most spectacularly sited of all British castles, Dinas Bran crowns a dominant conical hill towering 750 feet above the Vale of Llangollen. Here the Welsh Prince of Powys Fadog built a stone castle shortly before 1270, defended to the north by almost sheer drops and surrounded by the ramparts of an ancient Iron Age hillfort.
Dinas Bran can only be reached on foot, and after a steep climb. The simplest route is from Llangollen, via a waymarked trail beginning at the north end of the canal bridge.

Rhyl Seaquarium
Situated on the promenade at Rhyl, North Wales.
Walk through the under water tunnel - the first one in Wales - and get really close to our wonderful creatures without actually getting wet!
Explore and walk from cold fresh water lakes high in the mountains, down to the shore and out into the waves. Then dive down onto the continental shelf, follow it as it goes deeper and deeper, until finally it falls away, down into the deep abyss. Along the way you will see hundreds of animals from many different species, including salamanders that never grow up, animals with lots of legs but no bones, frogs that think they're skydivers and a moray eel disguised as a zebra.
With regular talks, touchpools and feeding demonstrations, there is something for everyone.
The Centre is wheelchair/pushchair friendly and has a fantastic choice of snacks and meals in the restaurant, an amazing variety of souvenirs in the gift shop and a fun adventure play area and outdoor patio.
Open daily from 10.00 am (please call for Winter opening times.)

Llangollen Railway
Llangollen Railway Trust have reopened a section of the former Ruabon to Barmouth route in North Wales that was closed in the 1960s. Our heritage trains now operate at weekends for most of the year, and all week from June to October. During the summer, most trains are steam-hauled; at other times diesel locomotives or railcars may be used
The Railway closed to passenger traffic in 1965, and to goods in 1968. The track and signalling was removed the following month, and for seven years the buildings and trackbed were left at the mercy of nature.
A group of enthusiastic volunteers started the rebirth of the line with an open day in September 1975, with 60 feet of track; since then the line has rarely looked back. The efforts of the growing band of volunteers have seen it extended to some 7_ miles along the Dee Valley through outstanding Welsh scenery, with views over the valley and its surroundings not seen from the A5 above.
